Con base en los supuestos de la Educación Crítica y en la comprensión de la obra de Paulo Freire como uno de los pilares constitutivos de la perspectiva de Alfabetización Crítica, este artículo esboza consideraciones a favor de la enseñanza y el aprendizaje del inglés para la justicia social y la construcción de ciudadanía activa. El objetivo principal es observar la superposición entre ellos, con el fin de indicar caminos y fomentar la inspiración para la enseñanza del idioma inglés contextualizada, significativa, decidida y crítica. Los materiales aquí indicados pueden contribuir tanto a la expansión del conocimiento del mundo de los actores escolares como al fomento de prácticas críticas en el aula. Apoiado nos pressupostos da Educação Crítica e no entendimento dos trabalhos de Paulo Freire como um dos pilares constitutivos da perspectiva dos Letramentos Críticos, este artigo traça considerações em prol do ensino e aprendizagem de língua inglesa para a justiça social e a construção da cidadania ativa. O objetivo principal é observar o imbricamento entre eles, a fim de indicar caminhos e fomentar inspiração para um ensino de língua inglesa contextualizado, significativo, propositado e crítico.
