Pretende-se mostrar que, reivindicada desde a primeira palavra do subtítulo, a autenticidade de Batouala. Véritable roman nègre (1921), de René Maran, está intimamente ligada ao seu estilo opaco. Esse estilo é constituído pela exploração literária de sons, palavras e estruturas que, emprestados do pidgin francês e de línguas bandas, podem vir acompanhados ou não de tradução intratextual narrativizada para o francês padrão.
