Este artigo analisa a tradução, feita por Olavo Bilac (1865-1918), da obra Max und Moritz – Eine Bubengeschichte in sieben Streichen, do alemão Wilhelm Busch (1832-1908). Combinando versos rimados e metrifi cados a ilustrações e formando seqüências narrativas, Busch desenvolveu um meio de expressão que pode ser definido como história ilustrada, forma precursora das atuais Histórias em Quadrinhos.
