    “…This article analyzes how in the context of economic decline experienced by the port of Cartagena between 1830 and 1858, the absence of capital and successful business initiatives led to financial formulas characterized by speculation and transaction mechanisms that prolonged the commercialization of enslaved people, violating including the freedom of bellies law issued by the President of Colombia Simón Bolívar. In addition, it is analyzed how the commercialization of captives through the sale and purchase and the commercialization of real estate jointly played a key role in the financial and economic activation of the city. …”
