“…This article is based on the consideration that regionalism is an adequate strategy not only for dynamic concertation and cooperation policies, but above all for the building of institutions and policies with regional outreach as far as envrionmental issues are concerned.The both theoretical and descriptive approach combined with the contents analysis as a quantitative method will allow us to find out more about how the environmental issues are currently addressed within the regional integration processes in South America and more specifically at the sub regional level-CAN, Mercosur, UNASUR and the Pacific Alliance. Our main finding emphasizes that the hurdle to the setting up of joint environmental policies and institutions stems from the fact that intergovernmentalism prevails over supranationalism.…”
