| description | This article studies the messages of the Mexican government about Russia's invasion of Ukraine, from the perspective of strategic political communication. Statements of President Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador and official press releases are evaluated through the method of discourse analysis, to determine the political purposes of the messages. The theoretical framework defines the following categories: strategic communication, political communication, and studies on war and its relationship with foreign policy. The empirical analysis is based on statements obtained from the official pages of the Mexican government between February 2022 (the start of the war) and May 2023. The main contribution of this study is to reveal the political use that the government has given to the war to contribute to its internal legitimacy. It is concluded that the government transmits its messages strategically, not neutrally, creating an arbitrary association between this war and the political situation of Mexico. |

Este artículo estudia los mensajes del gobierno de México acerca de la invasión de Rusia a Ucrania desde la perspectiva de la comunicación política estratégica. Se lleva a cabo un análisis del discurso, como parte del cual se evalúan las declaraciones del presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador y comunicados oficiales, para determinar los propósitos políticos de los mensajes que estos actores articulan en torno a dicho conflicto. En el marco teórico se definen los aspectos de la comunicación estratégica, la comunicación política, y los estudios sobre la guerra y su relación con la política exterior. El análisis empírico se basa en declaraciones obtenidas de las páginas oficiales del gobierno mexicano entre febrero de 2022 (el inicio de la guerra) y mayo de 2023. El análisis de estas fuentes permite determinar que el gobierno ha tenido una estrategia de comunicación con fines políticos tanto internacionales como nacionales. La principal contribución del estudio es revelar el uso político que el gobierno la ha dado a la guerra para contribuir a su legitimación interna. Se concluye que el gobierno transmite sus mensajes de forma estratégica, no neutral, creando una asociación arbitraria entre esta guerra y la coyuntura política mexicana.
