A través de esta investigación se tiene por objetivo conocer los orígenes de la inteligencia peruana y establecer la vinculación de sus orígenes con la lucha contrasubversiva a nivel nacional y con sus pares de la región. Se abordan los temas principales en la decisión política y militar para la creación del Sistema de Inteligencia, el andamiaje jurídico, el perfil del aparato de inteligencia, los efectos de reconversión institucional del Ejército peruano, los casos de la experiencia de Bolivia y México en la creación de organizaciones de inteligencia, el foco insurreccional y las nuevas formas de combatirlos, el aporte de la Marina de Guerra del Perú en la cultura de inteligencia, los hitos golpistas y guerrilleros, las represiones militares y sus relaciones con Argentina y Chile.
