description | Many studies have measured the impact in the dissuasion of the crimes by the installation of cameras of urban video surveillance, but the results thereof are contradictory, also it should be considered to have been a subject little studied in development countries. This article analyzes the capacity of urban cameras to reduce crime in the City of Mexico in the period 2008-2012. First, I built a baseline for 2008, where none of the police sectors had installed cameras, then the difference was compared between baseline and the percentage of crimes in each sector of temporary cuts 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, by linear regression (OLS), using as an explanatory variable the number of cameras in each sector, but no evidence was found to suggest that the installation of cameras had some effect in reducing crime. |
