description This article analyses the extend of the connections between islam and the democratization processes that came together with the “arab spring”, originated by the crowds on the streets. This process, even, envisages a less happy ending than what was expected, in which Coran’s religion plays a definitive role, enemy of democracy. In face of this, the author proposes, firstly, the features that define democracy to then relate them with the nucleus of Coran’s tradition and, finally, establishes how religious movements have acted in relation to democratic principles.

This article analyses the extend of the connections between islam and the democratization processes that came together with the “arab spring”, originated by the crowds on the streets. Universidad Politécnica Salesiana (Ecuador) 2013-12-30 info:eu-repo/semantics/article info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion application/pdf https://universitas.ups.edu.ec/index.php/universitas/article/view/19.2013.01 10.17163/uni.n19.2013.01 Universitas; No. 19: (july-december 2013); 17-48 Universitas; Núm. 19: (julio-diciembre 2013); 17-48 1390-8634 1390-3837 10.17163/uni.n19 spa https://universitas.ups.edu.ec/index.php/universitas/article/view/19.2013.01/755 Derechos de autor 2016 Universidad Politénica Salesiana
