El proyecto de extensión “Cronistas Barriales” de la Universidad Nacional de Quilmes es una muestra genuina del interés de los jóvenes por participar de expresiones comunicacionales novedosas y democráticas. Los barrios, la Universidad y el Municipio trabajan juntos en el fomento de la comunicación popular mediante la alfabetización audiovisual informativa de jóvenes de zonas periféricas del área metropolitana de Buenos Aires. Dicha zona urbana, es de alta densidad poblacional y donde se concentran sectores sociales de alta vulnerabilidad y de donde en los medios masivos de comunicación se construyen estigmatizaciones de jóvenes como protagonistas de echos delictivos, zonas de peligro, etc. De esa manera se obvia la visibilización de proyectos de organización social, políticas públicas, educativas y comunicacionales que buscan construir mejoras en la calidad de vida y un instrumento de expresión que muestre la perspectiva de la comunicación desde los territorios. El objetivo de este trabajo es describir el proyecto Cronistas Barriales, sus etapas y alcances.
