description This essay’s intend is to dust off some representative concepts of moral theology and present them to the new bioethics discipline as a precious instrument of discernment and application in the clinical setting, but not only that. I am referring to the concept of proportionality or disproportionality as an instrument to reach decisions in confictive decisions. In the great current debates generated at the heart of bioethics, there have been several diffculties in the bioethics committees, hospitals’ ethics committees or care committees, when debating and agreeing upon what decision to make in face of a specifc clinical picture. In virtue of that, I believe it is necessary to deepen the study and propose contributions to the subject using insights from moral theology. It is important to keep in mind that in reality, bioethics has borrowed several structures and concepts not only from moral theology, but also anthropology, law, and catholic ethics. The intention, therefore, is to refer exclusively to some writings from Pius’ XII Pontifcal Magisterium and their contributions to moral theology at the time. After that, I will supplement this work with the contribution from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in the magisterial document “Iurat et bona”, to fnally try to apply the concept of proportionality to the possible clinical decisions.

After that, I will supplement this work with the contribution from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in the magisterial document “Iurat et bona”, to fnally try to apply the concept of proportionality to the possible clinical decisions. Universidad Politécnica Salesiana (Ecuador) 2015-06-30 info:eu-repo/semantics/article info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion application/pdf https://universitas.ups.edu.ec/index.php/universitas/article/view/22.2015.07 10.17163/uni.n22.2015.07 Universitas; No. 22: (january-june 2015); 177-200 Universitas; Núm. 22: (enero-junio 2015); 177-200 1390-8634 1390-3837 10.17163/uni.n22 spa https://universitas.ups.edu.ec/index.php/universitas/article/view/22.2015.07/152 Derechos de autor 2015 Universidad Politénica Salesiana
