Sumario: | This study analyses the management practices of the cooperatives which are members of the Federation of Cooperatives in the Colombian Caribbean (CONFECOOP CARIBE). These form a group of non-profit entities based in Cartagena (Bolívar), working in different economic sectors. The purpose of this study is to assess the management of the cooperatives which are members of CONFECOOP CARIBE to propose alternatives for improvement ensuring their sustainability and development. Statistical analysis was used to identify the critical management factors in this group of cooperatives. Once these were obtained those with greater impact on management were analyzed. Study results showed the correlation between the organizational structure, management, planning capability, control and organizational climate. Recommendations for improvement were made based upon the findings of this analysis.
