Sumario: | This research explores the relationship between public and environmental management in the activities of Colombo-Venezuelan municipal markets. The type of investigation was descriptive, the design of the same one was not experimental, transeccional, of field. The survey produced the following results: the population demonstrated capacity to manage financial resources and undertake management evaluation. Management control and regional development are of a lesser degree of applicability in the market studied. The participants in the study operate on an individual basis which does not foster a sense of cooperation and participation, or respect for the work of others. The participants showed limited knowledge of the public management audits and fiscal controls. However, it should be noted that they expressed the need to improve the ability to participate in decision-making and solve community environmental problems in the market towns of Maicao and La Guajira, for the mutual benefit of all.
