Sumario:This paper presents the socioeconomic characteristics of informal workers in the city of Barranquilla, especially street vendors in the northern sector of the city. To accomplish this, data is gathered from a survey conducted by the Universidad del Norte, which focuses on education, health, housing, employment profiles, and other variables. In order to determine the factors which characterize this population, a multiple correspondence analysis was performed, highlighting the factors associated with informal employment, such as working hours, income, marital status and socioeconomic level. The results suggest that this phenomenon, of recent origin in Latin American economies, is the result of the lack of public policies for their vulnerable population.
