El evento deportivo “Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe” JCAC, en su versión número XX, convocó, en Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), a treinta y dos países del área, los cuales compitieron en múltiples disciplinas, siendo Cuba el que logró ubicarse en el primer puesto de la medallería, seguido por Méjico, Venezuela y Colombia.En este trabajo se establece el desempeño logrado por los países participantes en los XX JCAC, apartándonos del análisis de la tradicional clasificación simple por medallas ganadas, e involucrando a cambio, variables que se consideran determinantes del desempeño deportivo de las naciones, como su producto interior, el tamaño de su población y el número de deportistas por país, usando la metodología del Análisis Envolvente de Datos, DEA (por sus siglas en inglés).Los resultados muestran que muy pocos de los países que por el número de medallas ganadas ocupan el puestos de privilegio, lo conservan si se mira su desempeño bajo el enfoque del DEA.Palabras Clave: Evento deportivo, eficiencia, DMU, DEA.
