description Background and objectives: This study shows the recent behavior of Colombia's international trade with the countries belonging to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations plus China, Korea and Japan (ASEAN+3), followed by the behavior of Colombia's trade balance in the last twenty years. Methods: This study aims to analyze Colombia’s export performance through the Indicator of export potential by product according to value and country, as well as the the Diversification Index of product exports by Colombia to ASEAN+3 countries based on the Product Space methodology of the International Trade Center. Findings: The significant deterioration from the year 2011 of the trade balance of Colombia is evident, mainly with the United States as the country's main trading partner despite the signing of the Free Trade Agreement and the increase in the devaluation of the Colombian peso against to the US dollar in the last eleven years. In addition, new possibilities are shown in products to be taken advantage of by Colombia in this region, which are defined in viable alternatives that allow improving the results of international trade, as well as reducing the high dependence of the country's exports on few commodities and their high concentration in a single market. Conclusion: The existence of a promising offer is concluded both in the increase of currently exported goods and in the creation of new sectors and products to be exported to the selected countries that can become crucial when reconfiguring the structure of Colombia's international trade and thereby contributing to the solution of the problems that arise in this sector.
