The purpose of this research is the economic and social impact measurement of its implementation as strategy, not only to guarantee food security, but also to improve the standard of living of vulnerable people in the main cities of Bolivar, Cordoba and Sucre. A socioeconomic diagnosis was made for households who had implemented the project. Besides that, production functions for the orchards were estimated and environmental valuation for adoption of clean technologies in domestic solid wastes management process as well. At final section, a causality relation between having Productive Backyards and Food Security is established.Key Words: Productive backyards, Colombian Caribbean Coast, urban agriculture, food security, contingent valuation. |

La inseguridad alimentaria, la pobreza y el desmejoramiento del medio ambiente, son algunos de los mayores desafíos que las ciudades han tenido que afrontar, aun con mayor ímpetu desde principios del siglo XXI. Al respecto se han desarrollado programas y proyectos, como el de Patios Productivos, para hacerle frente a la anterior situación; el propósito de la presente investigación fue efectuar la medición impacto económico y social de su implementación como estrategia para garantizar la seguridad alimentaria y mejorar la calidad de vida de la población vulnerable residente en las ciudades capitales y principales cabeceras municipales de los departamentos de Bolívar, Córdoba y Sucre. Para esto se efectúa un diagnóstico económico social de los hogares que implementaron el proyecto, además se estiman funciones de producción para las huertas, y se efectúa una valoración a nivel medioambiental de la adopción de tecnologías limpias en el manejo de los residuos sólidos domiciliarios.
