Sumario: | Food insecurity, poverty and pollution are some of the cities’ biggest challenges, even more since the beginning of the 21th century. There are programs and projects, such as Productive Backyards, which help mitigate the above situation. The purpose of this research is the economic and social impact measurement of its implementation as strategy, not only to guarantee food security, but also to improve the standard of living of vulnerable people in the main cities of Bolivar, Cordoba and Sucre. A socioeconomic diagnosis was made for households who had implemented the project. Besides that, production functions for the orchards were estimated and environmental valuation for adoption of clean technologies in domestic solid wastes management process as well. At final section, a causality relation between having Productive Backyards and Food Security is established.Key Words: Productive backyards, Colombian Caribbean Coast, urban agriculture, food security, contingent valuation.
