Sumario:The following is a document that aims to make a mainstreaming of the social history of Cartagena de Indias with the intention of showing how this was transformed from a globalized city from its beginnings as a funtion of not only the inherent cultural and ethnic diversity of the various nationalities who came to her in terms of conqueros and colonizers mixtures with ethnic Indians and the slaves who  were brought for purposes economic exploitation but did not prevent the construction of both a certain identity of Cartagena but then, the product of that same globalization exclusive of interest and differentiation, has taken a course that the socially fragmenting and destroying their sense of local identity.Key words: Economic history, Globalization, Public economic, free markets, Economic growth.
