Sumario:This paper presents an analysis of the prevailing trends in higher education in Colombia, as a result of national policies implementation resulting from the setting up of the Ten-Year Education Plan (2006- 2016) that has been at the source of the current reform process of the Law 30/1992. Therefore, a reflection of these reforms is necessary in public universities in Colombia, because they are still required to have a higher integration with global networks of higher education and transformation towards management quality and educational services accreditation. In the same way, it is also important to have the institutional sustainability based on income diversification and value added through the third mission. Finally, we explore prospectively sustainability scenarios required by the Colombian Public Universities in order to adapt to the changing times considering their role during the last decade.
