Se estableció la validez y confiabilidad de una escala para medir la identidad familiar en torno a la salud de uno de sus integrantes enfermo. Se establecieron tres factores referidos al liderazgo familiar, la transición al liderazgo y la ausencia de liderazgo. Se elaboró un modelo de regresión lineal múltiple para demostrar la relación causal entre los tres factores sobre la identidad regional. Finalmente, a través de otro modelo estructural se infirió y discutió el efecto de otras variables perceptuales, valorativas, actitudinales, intencionales y conductuales no incluidas en el modelo.
