description The article presents some ideas on how developing that type of investigation in the University by means of the adoption of a policy of integral investigation, the structuring of a system of investigations as unit and the accomplishment of strategic operations and concrete in the short term. In this article the difference between research and formative research is presented. The dangers of confusing these two forms of academic work are pointed out, and the need of developing them simultaneously to face the new challenges of the superior education is insisted.

En este artículo se presentan algunas ideas sobre cómo desarrollar la investigación en la Universidad, mediante la adopción de una política de investigación integral, la estructuración de un sistema de investigaciones como unidad y la realización de acciones estratégicas y concretas en corto plazo. Así mismo, se hace una distinción entre investigación e investigación formativa. Señalando los peligros de confundir estas dos formas de trabajo académico e insiste en la necesidad de desarrollarlas simultáneamente para enfrentar los nuevos retos de la educación superior.
