| description | Based on social research carried out in capital cities of Colombia and Venezuela, the analysis and effects of the relationships that young people have with the urban spaces represented in shopping centers and public squares are presented. In addition to exposing the methodological processes, results and common points, an analysis is made of the changes that cultural dynamics have had as a result of the globalizing and hegemonic increase. The findings confirm the relationship between young people, urban spaces and their cultural practices. The invitation is made to propose alternatives in which the malls give space to other cultural expressions and motivate young people to demand from local and regional leaders public policies for them and cultural goods and services, but above all to activate the democratizing project proposed by Canclini et al (2010). The investigations of Bermúdez (2010) in Maracaibo-Venezuela, and of Bohórquez, López and Suárez (2014) in Bucaramanga-Colombia, served as the basis for this reflection. |

A partir de investigaciones sociales realizadas en ciudades capitales de Colombia y Venezuela, se presenta el análisis y efectos de las relaciones que tienen los jóvenes con los espacios urbanos representados en centros comerciales y plazas públicas. Además de exponer los procesos metodológicos, resultados y puntos comunes, se hace un análisis de los cambios que la dinámica cultural ha tenido como resultado del incremento globalizador y hegemónico. Lo hallado permite confirmar la relación existente entre los jóvenes, los espacios urbanos y sus prácticas culturales. Se hace la invitación a proponer alternativas en las cuales los malls den espacio a otras expresiones culturales y motivar a los jóvenes a exigir a los mandatarios locales y regionales políticas públicas para ellos y los bienes y servicios culturales, pero sobre todo a activar el proyecto democratizador propuesto por Canclini et al (2010). Las investigaciones de Bermúdez (2010) en Maracaibo-Venezuela, y de Bohórquez, López y Suárez (2014) en Bucaramanga-Colombia, sirvieron de base para esta reflexión.
