In 2010, the story of 33 miners who were trapped 700 meters underground generated a global media phenomenon, which recorded a television, radio, digital press and social media audience of millions of people on five continents. Without a doubt, this was a reputable experience that put Chilean mining on the international public agenda. Five years later, what do the media say about the sector? This document presents the results of the evaluation of the media reputation of mining in Chile in 2014, based on data obtained through the analysis of quantitative and qualitative content in national newspapers.

La minería en Chile tiene una historia ancestral, forma parte de su identidad como nación y es clave para su desarrollo. El sector tiene un rol primordial en la economía mundial, el país es proveedor líder de muchas materias primas especialmente asociadas al cobre, el litio y el potasio. En el 2010 la historia de 33 mineros que quedaron atrapados 700 metros bajo tierra generó un fenómeno mediático global, que registró una audiencia televisiva, radiofónica, en prensa digital y redes sociales de millones de personas en los cinco continentes. Sin duda, esta fue una experiencia de reputación que puso a la minería chilena en la agenda pública internacional. Cinco años después, ¿qué dicen los medios de comunicación del sector? Este documento presenta los resultados de la evaluación a la reputación mediática de la minería en Chile en el año 2014, a partir de los datos obtenidos mediante el análisis de contenido cuantitativo y cualitativo en diarios nacionales.
