description Breast cancer is an oncological disease that affects a considerable number of women in Colombia, which has two processes that are of interest to psychology, diagnosis and treatment; as both lead to different changes in the person who suffers, which are accompanied by multiple ideas and beliefs around this new reality to which the subject must adjust. In this order of ideas, this article as an advance of research raises a theoretical body based on cognitive psychology, from emotive rational theory. The methodological proposal was placed in the interpretative paradigm, with a qualitative methodology, being a unique case study. To make the approach to the first objective was applied the life story technique. As a preliminary result, it was possible to show that women have support networks that promote positive emotions against treatment and diagnosis, as well as flexible and reasonable thinking about change.
