Sumario: | This article is based on the analysis of 850 anthropology theses and a sample of the bibliography of 117, which were carried out in Ecuador between 1977 and 2020. This allows us to present the evolution of this discipline in the country. First, we point out the processes of institutional construction, the development of the themes, and the geographical spaces worked on are pointed out. Next, the intellectual influences are addressed through the bibliographical materials cited, geographical influences, and influential authors. Then, we review several gender variables and descriptions of some data about the directors of the theses. Finally, with this material, we comment achievements, lines of reflection in development, as well as gaps and thematic and geographical, suggesting some lines of reflection for the development of the discipline.
