description This study is an urban archaeology investigation in the historical building called “Febres Cordero” or Escuela San José in the Twenty-First century. It is located in the historic center of Cuenca, Ecuador. The Christian Brothers occupied the building at the end of the Nineteen century and for much of the Twenty century. The methodology used included geophysical prospecting using ground-penetrating radar to detect underground anomalies. In addition, excavations were carried out to collect data and material evidence. The findings included channels, floors, and ceramics from both colonial and republican times. The results of this study provide valuable information about the history and evolution of the building and its surroundings. Moreover, it corresponds to an Andean colonial and republic city.

En el presente estudio se llevó a cabo una investigación de arqueología urbana en el edificio histórico conocido como “Febres Cordero” o Escuela San José en el siglo XXI. Situado en el centro histórico de Cuenca, Ecuador. El edificio fue ocupado por los Hermanos Cristianos a finales del siglo XIX y durante gran parte del siglo XX. La metodología utilizada incluyó la prospección geofísica mediante el uso de georradar, con el objetivo de detectar anomalías subterráneas. Además, se llevaron a cabo excavaciones para recolectar datos y evidencias materiales. Los hallazgos incluyeron canales, pisos y cerámicas de épocas tanto coloniales como republicanas. Los resultados de este estudio proporcionan información valiosa sobre la historia y evolución del edificio y su entorno. Se corresponde en el marco de una ciudad andina de colonia y república.
