El tejido tradicional del sombrero ecuatoriano de paja toquilla, -una manifestación representativa del patrimonio inmaterial ecuatoriano-, se examina a través de la interacción entre la gestión del patrimonio cultural, la participación de las comunidades portadoras de saberes y la acción de los Estados para salvaguardar los conocimientos tradicionales. De ahí que, el proyecto “Tejiendo el Desarrollo Sostenible en Pile” está constituido por tres componentes: salvaguardia, formación y cadena de valor, los cuales partieron de un diagnóstico de la realidad actual de la comunidad, para luego abordar una fase de instalación de los productos diseñados y finalmente, el uso de tales productos para generar proyectos colectivos de los beneficiarios.
