This article analyzes the evolution of Indigenous groups, from being historicallyunderserved and subordinate, toward a new type of Indigenous citizenship.

Este trabajo de síntesis presenta una visión panorámica de las políticas indígenas de los distintos gobiernos nacionales argentinos, desde el periodo posterior a la independencia hasta la actualidad. Se analiza los distintos marcos jurídicos e instituciones legales, para contribuir con un mejor entendimiento de la relación entre los pueblos originarios, el Estado y la sociedad argentina. La segunda parte del artículo se enfoca en el periodo iniciado con la transición democrática en 1983, durante el cual emergieron sujetos políticos indígenas, quienes construirían un discurso de demanda de creación de una verdadera democracia, contemplando por primera vez el carácter plural étnico de lo nacional.
