El artículo analiza la incorporación del multiculturalismo por parte del Estado mexicano, observando de cerca cómo influye y pauta la organización dentro de las comunidades indígenas, analizando de cerca el caso de la comunidad Cuahtamazaco en el Estado de Puebla, México. El trabajo observa cómo el discurso esencialista del multiculturalismo se confronta con las necesidades de cambio en las relaciones de género que las mujeres indígenas nahuas quieren dar a su cultura e identidad.
