| description | This article is the result of reflections about the large development projects installed in sertão of Itaparica, Pernambuco state, Brazil. It analyses the ways in which a development discourse through the years has stimulated forceful displacements and the appropriation of natural resources, affecting the physical, social, and cultural modes of reproduction of peoples and traditional communities. It provides an analytical perspective based on ponderations that emerge from fronts promoted by the State to expand the implementation of new spaces for these large economic development projects that are legally backed. The forms of territorial appropriation are linked to the discourse of “open spaces” and the decadent spaces that are associated with the sertões of Brazil since the 16th century, in order to make the implementation of economic enterprises in the regions, considered at the margin of capital, effective. |

El presente artículo es el resultado de reflexiones sobre los grandes proyectos de desarrollo instalados en el sertão del Itaparica, estado de Pernambuco, Brasil, y la forma como un discurso desarrollista, con el paso de los años, ha estimulado desplazamientos forzados y la apropiación de recursos naturales, afectando modos de reproducción física, social y cultural de pueblos y comunidades tradicionales. Se ofrece una perspectiva analítica construida a partir de ponderaciones que surgen de los frentes impulsados por el Estado para expandir la implementación de nuevos espacios para los grandes proyectos de desarrollo económico, respaldados jurídicamente. Las formas de apropiación territorial están vinculadas con el discurso de “espacios vacíos” y decadentes con los que se ha asociado a los sertões de Brasil desde el siglo XVI, para hacer efectiva la implementación de emprendimientos económicos en regiones consideradas al margen del capital. Este artigo é o resultado de reflexões sobre os grandes projetos de desenvolvimento instalados no sertão de Itaparica, Estado de Pernambuco, Brasil, e como um discurso desenvolvimentista, ao longo dos anos, tem estimulado deslocamentos forçados e a apropriação de recursos naturais, afetando modos de reprodução física, social e cultural de povos e comunidades tradicionais. Oferece uma perspectiva analítica construída a partir das considerações que emergem das frentes promovidas pelo Estado para ampliar a implementação de novos espaços para grandes projetos de desenvolvimento econômico, legalmente respaldados. As formas de apropriação territorial estão vinculadas ao discurso de "espaços vazios e decadentes" com os quais tem sido associado o sertão do Brasil desde o século XVI, para efetivar a implantação de empreendimentos econômicos em regiões consideradas à margem do capital.
