This article addresses the role of visual anthropology in the construction of memories and the articulation of testimonies concerning torture case survivors, arguing that audiovisual interviews are a space for dialogue and communicative interaction in which witnesses –through their faces, gestures and emotions– embody testimonial images. Presentacion del Dossier: La Antropología visual, pese a ser una subdisciplina de larga data en la Antropología, es todavía un campo emergente en Latinoamérica. Programas específicos de formación de posgrado han surgido en Brasil, Chile, Perú y Ecuador en los años recientes. Paradójicamente, en aquellos lugares de mayor tradición en producción documental, fotografía y cine –incluyendo el cine etnográfico– como México, Argentina y Colombia, las discusiones sobre visualidad se desarrollan en un ámbito poco específico, a veces subsumidas en discusiones multidisciplinarias y/o bajo el paraguas de la Antropología social. El propósito de este dossier elaborado por Íconos sobre la materia en la región es brindar un texto de consulta, un material de referencia para que quienes, situados principalmente dentro del campo de la Antropología, puedan acceder, al mismo tiempo, a un estado de la discusión desde las prácticas académicas y a la constitución de un campo de debate como tal. Esto incluye, por ejemplo, discusiones en torno al diálogo y al conflicto entre la producción textual y audiovisual, los problemas pedagógicos derivados de la enseñanza de la etnografía visual y el avance en agendas relacionadas con un tema profundamente enraizado en la subdisciplina: la representación del Otro.
