description | The vendors of the street Eloy Salmon, located on the city La Paz, Bolivia, have been perceived as practicing an “informal” economy, excluded from the circuits of global capital accumulation and associated with poverty and low salaries. The history of these Bolivian vendors has been characterized by processes of exclusion and marginalization from the official economy and Bolivia’s state apparatus since its establishment in 1952. We propose – using the concept of David Harvey – that the vendors of Eloy Salmon are part of the molecular movements of the capital. This can be explained by observing that in their existing organization they have their own institutional forms, internal codes of exchange, and cultural practices that allow there to be social and local attachments, as well as the fostering of relationships with global capitalism, which creates “resistance” to the State. |

Los comerciantes de la calle Eloy Salmón, ubicada en la ciudad de La Paz, Bolivia, han sido vistos como una economía “informal” excluida de los circuitos de acumulación de capital global y asociados con pobreza y bajos salarios. La historia de estos comerciantes bolivianos ha estado marcada por procesos de exclusión y marginación de la economía oficial y del aparato estatal boliviano desde su establecimiento en 1952. Se propone –siguiendo el concepto de David Harvey– que los comerciantes de la Eloy Salmón son parte de los movimientos moleculares del capital. Esto debido a que dentro de su organización existen formas propias de institucionalidad, códigos internos entre los comerciantes y prácticas culturales que permiten un anclaje social local así como tejer relaciones con el capitalismo global, creando con ello una “resistencia” frente al Estado. Os comerciantes da rua Eloy Salmon, localizada na cidade de La Paz, Bolívia, têm sido vistos como uma economia "informal" excluída dos circuitos de acumulação do capital global e associados à pobreza e aos baixos salários. A história desses mercadores bolivianos tem sido marcada por processos de exclusão e marginalização da economia oficial e do aparato estatal boliviano desde a sua criação em 1952. Propõe-se - seguindo o conceito de David Harvey - que os comerciantes da Eloy Salmón são parte dos movimentos moleculares do capital. Isso devido a que dentro da sua organização existem formas próprias de institucionalidade, códigos internos entre os comerciantes e práticas culturais que permitem uma ancoragem social local e tecem relações com o capitalismo global, criando assim uma "resistência" frente ao Estado.
