Este artículo discute las dimensiones problemáticas de las formas en que la noción de individuo ha sido y es movilizada por una parte importante del feminismo en América Latina. La presentación aborda los avatares de su recepción teórica y política, además se detiene en las consecuencias que este modo de comprensión tiene en el ámbito de la producción de conocimientos y en el de los procesos de institucionalización estatal (políticas públicas). El texto argumenta que este uso de la noción de individuo conduce a una imposición normativa que empobrece la reflexión sobre las sociedades latinoamericanas así como permite, de manera indeseada y paradójica, que partiendo de horizontes utópicos se aporte a las nuevas formas de dominación contemporáneas.
