| description | This article analyses politics at the local level through the perspective of a neighbourhood leader in Mexico City. Drawing on the comprehensive sociology approach and the study of a specific career trajectory, it analyses how a neighbourhood leader works to construct beneficiaries for neighbourhood level social programs and broker resources that would not be leveraged without their work. The analysis presents an alternative vision to other analysts who have emphasized the capture of public funds for electoral purposes by neighbourhood leaders. The objective is to invite researchers to rethink the role of the local political ‘broker’ or intermediary and to consider the complexity of this role. The moral and political dilemmas that condition the behaviour of such leaders are also considered. From here, without making a moral judgement, we consider how political brokerage and the activities that it involves combine instrumental considerations with moral and ideological dimensions. |

En este artículo se analiza el trabajo político realizado a escala territorial por un líder barrial de la Ciudad de México. Con apoyo en una socióloga comprensiva y el estudio de una trayectoria específica, se trata de entender cómo un líder barrial hace un trabajo de construcción de beneficiaros de los programas sociales a escala territorial y cómo junta recursos que no llegarían allí sin su trabajo. Se ofrece aquí una visión alterna a los análisis que enfatizan la captación de recursos públicos con fines electorales por parte estos líderes, con el objetivo de invitar a investigadoras e investigadores al mundo del intermediario para dimensionar la complejidad de su actuación. También se dan a conocer los dilemas morales y políticos que condicionan la conducta de este líder y se propone, sin prejuicio moral, comprender cómo el trabajo político se inserta en acciones donde la dimensión instrumental se entremezcla con la dimensión moral e ideológica. Neste artigo se analisa o trabalho político realizado em escala territorial por um líder de bairro da Cidade do México. Com apoio numa sociologia abrangente e no estudo de uma trajetória específica, busca-se entender como um líder de bairro faz um trabalho de construção de beneficiários dos programas sociais a uma escala territorial e como ele reúne recursos que não chegariam ali sem o seu trabalho. É oferecida aqui uma visão alternativa às análises que enfatizam a captação de recursos públicos para fins eleitorais por esses líderes com o objetivo de convidar pesquisadores e pesquisadoras ao mundo do intermediário e dimensionar a complexidade de suas ações. Também são divulgados os dilemas morais e políticos que condicionam o comportamento deste líder e se propõe, sem preconceito moral, entender como o trabalho político está inserido em ações em que a dimensão instrumental se mistura com a dimensão moral e ideológica.
