Through a diachronic analysis including in-depth interviews and political ethnography we analyse how concepts and practices around the exercise of politics are understood by these politicians and analyse ow they interact with the local population. We analyse how notions about politics, loyalty and the proper behaviour of an elected official are understood. Through the issues analysed we provoke the reader to rethink ‘clientelism’ and its role in everyday life and in state building at the local level. |

Este trabajo explora las interacciones entre la población de una comuna chilena y dos autoridades locales del Partido Demócrata Cristiano: un exalcalde y un concejal en actual ejercicio. Específicamente, a través de un análisis diacrónico, entrevistas en profundidad y etnografía política, se da cuenta de cómo se anclan concepciones y prácticas relacionadas con el trabajo político en personeros de este partido y cómo ello interactúa con la población local y sus nociones sobre política, lealtad y buen ejercicio de un cargo público. Los temas analizados invitan a repensar el clientelismo en clave de vida cotidiana y construcción del Estado a nivel local. Este trabalho explora as interações entre a população de uma comuna chilena e duas autoridades locais do Partido Democrata Cristão: um ex-prefeito e um conselheiro no exercício atual. Especificamente, através de uma análise diacrônica, entrevistas em profundidade e etnografia política, percebe-se como são ancoradas concepções e práticas relacionadas com o trabalho político em representantes deste partido e como isto interage com a população local e suas noções sobre política, lealdade e bom exercício do cargo público. Os tópicos analisados convidam a repensar o clientelismo desde a perspectiva da vida cotidiana e da construção do Estado a nível local.
