Sumario:Contrary to what it is generally assumed, this essay finds that rural household income in Bolivia is highly diversified. Estimations for 2002 reveal that only 52% of a rural household income comes from agricultural activities inside the farm. The study shows that the “agrarian question” in Bolivia is no longer exclusively and agricultural issue. The development of independent activities and the apparently institucionalized participation in periodic wage markets reflect the need to go beyond strictly agricultural policies.
