This paper reviews both his most relevant contributions about art and culture in Ecuador, a topic that has been excluded in the analysis of his 60’s works, and the theoretical influences that Cueva received during this period of his intellectual trajectory. |

El presente trabajo recorre la primera etapa de la obra de Agustín Cueva (1937-1992), sociólogo ecuatoriano que representa una de las figuras más importantes en el legado del pensamiento social en la segunda mitad del siglo XX, no solo en su propio país, sino también en América Latina. Se estudian sus trabajos de la década de 1960, especialmente durante la segunda mitad de dicha década pues, por una parte, allí se sitúa el comienzo del itinerario de su prolífica producción intelectual y, al mismo tiempo, resulta aquella etapa menos difundida y más postergada en el abordaje de su obra. Estas páginas repasan tanto sus aportes más relevantes acerca del arte y la cultura en Ecuador, tópico excluyente de sus trabajos sesentistas, como las influencias teóricas que Cueva recibió en dicho período de su trayectoria intelectual. O presente trabalho recolhe a primeira etapa da obra de Agustín Cueva (1937-1992), sociólogo equatoriano que representa um dos personagens mais importantes no legado do pensamento social na segunda metade do século XX, não só em seu próprio país, mas também na América Latina. São estudados os seus trabalhos da década de 1960, especialmente durante a segunda metade da mencionada década, pois, por uma parte, ali se situa o começo do itinerário da sua prolífica produção intelectual e, ao mesmo tempo, resulta aquela etapa menos difundida e mais postergada na abordagem da sua obra. Estas páginas repassam tanto os seus aportes mais relevantes sobre a arte e a cultura do Equador, tópico excluído dos seus trabalhos dos anos sessenta, quanto às influências teóricas que Cueva recebeu no mencionado período de sua trajetória intelectual.
