Este trabajo sostiene que las democracias sudamericanas han exhibido una notable predisposición a la negociación bilateral, a la búsqueda de arbitrajes/mediaciones y al establecimiento de instituciones regionales inter-democráticas. Estos rasgos han favorecido la solución de la mayoría de los conflictos regionales o su administración por parte de distintas instituciones. Asimismo, la difusión y consolidación de la paz regional ha provocado un fenómeno no anticipado por la literatura sobre la paz democrática, nos referimos a la reconfiguración de las amenazas que refuerza, por su propia dinámica, la paz sudamericana. Este trabalho sustenta que as democracias sul-americanas têm demostrado uma notável predisposição à negociação bilateral, à busca de arbitragens/mediações e ao estabelecimento de instituições regionais inter-democráticas. Estas características favoreceram a solução da maioria dos conitos regionais ou sua administração por parte de distintas instituições. Da mesma forma, a difusão e consolidação da paz regional provocou um fenômeno não antecipado pela literatura sobre a paz democrática, nos referimos à reconguração das ameaças que reforça, pela sua própria dinâmica, a paz sul-americana.
