Sumario:This article has the objective of revealing the virtuous circle between the sociological production of knowledge, its incorporation into the public agenda, and the formation of policies that seek to transform gender relations. It covers the trajectory of the production of sociological knowledge about gender and caregiving in Uruguay and their links with public policies. It is argued that in Uruguay the work of research undertaken in academia has been able to promote visibility to the work of caregiving and its value for contributing to social welfare and the economic system. In 2010, the Uruguayan government took these academic researches and initiated the design of a national system of caregiving.
