El artículo analiza el proceso de conversión al protestantismo de los miembros de una comunidad que brinda asistencia social a hombres, mujeres y niños de sectores urbano-marginales de Quito. El estudio centra su atención en la incidencia de esta comunidad en las relaciones sociales, prácticas, conductas y modo de vida de sus miembros, especialmente en aquellos para los cuales la institución se ha convertido en una opción de vida como su forma de “servir al Señor”. Se plantea una reflexión sobre el complejo proceso de ingreso a un nuevo mundo (que no está libre de contradicciones) y el cambio en la vida de los individuos.
