Uruguay, Chile, and Costa Rica are in Type 1 (4,0 average) and have the best procedural indicators of democratic quality. Type 4 (-2,6) include Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua has the worst. Type 2 and 3 (0,7 and -1,0, respectively) assemble the remaining countries that also face challenges regarding the quality of democracy. |

Este trabajo realiza una clasificación de las democracias en América Latina entre 2013 y 2018 a partir de un análisis factorial que incluye estas dimensiones: derechos políticos y libertades, Estado de derecho, participación, rendición de cuentas (horizontal y vertical) y efectividad del Gobierno. Se acude al índice de Polity V, a los datos de Freedom House, Banco Mundial y Varieties of Democracy. Mediante observaciones de conglomerado y un dendrograma se obtiene que las democracias en la región se clasifican en clústeres de países. El tipo 1 conformado por Uruguay, Chile y Costa Rica poseen los mejores indicadores procedimentales de calidad democrática, con una media de 4,0; a diferencia del tipo 4 conformado por Guatemala, Honduras y Nicaragua con -2,6 e indicadores negativos. Los tipos 2 y 3, con índices de 0,7 y -1,0, de forma respectiva, congregan a la mayoría de países de la región y también enfrentan retos en términos de calidad de la democracia.
