El modelo extractivista impuesto a los países del sur a manos de los países desarrollados, se contrapone a los intereses locales de las comunidades porque éstas tienen proyectos de desarrollo autónomos ligados estrechamente a su identidad. En tal sentido, este trabajo demuestra que la identidad colectiva de los marmateños se centra en la explotación minera a pequeña escala; por lo tanto, cuando el extractivismo llega a Marmato, el pueblo se resiste en defensa de la identidad colectiva que ven vulnerada. Consecuentemente, este análisis argumenta que las comunidades son las principales responsables de resistir al extractivismo y de construir una sociedad justa mediante la acción colectiva.
