Sumario:This article analyzes the Independence of Colombia period from a new perspective that goes beyond the tendency that has prevailed in traditional historiography of over-dimensioning war, battlefield events, and military tactics. The new bet aims, then, to examine this emancipation process taking into account its complexity and its scope on a regional scale, emphasizing the negotiation and research for peace explored during those years. The foregoing implies the review of mechanisms through which patriots and those who defended the monarchical cause sought these approaches: armistices, capitulations, pardons, humanitarian treatment, exchange of prisoners and the peace arrangement, conciliation options that, even with all the interferences, allowed to save the lives of hundreds of combatants, diminished the effects of military confrontation and meant a relief to the population.
