Sumario:This paper seeks to show the existing connections between the ideology of the guerrillas and the paramilitary groups and the models of rebel governance that these armed actors have consolidated in secured territories in Colombia. In this sense, reference is made to the main concepts and approaches of existing theoretical perspectives to discuss and contrast them with reality. To do this, a qualitative methodology and documentary review as a research tool were used. It was found that the interaction between ideology and rebel governance can be understood through: 1. the interests exercised by the armed actors over territorial control, 2. the elements used to exert such control, 3. the legitimacy of the civilian population towards consolidated rebel governance; and 4. the relationship between armed actors and the civilian population. These findings offer a novel starting point to deepen theoretically on the behavior of other armed groups in different realities to Colombia.
