Sumario:An imperative for economic development has been the industrialization and the urbanization, in this text both processes are describe historically in same territory: the Metropolitan Area of Guadalajara (ZMG), Jalisco, Mexico. Emphasis is placed on the ecological impacts of these, especially on the Santiago river basin, and social conflict that it represent. The text discusses in detail the issue of pollutant emissions from industry and disposal of municipal solid waste, key factors in the struggles and resistance of the peoples affected, which highlights the power of the regional organization and territorial identity.
