It is proposed that concepts such as place, urban identity, environmen tal control and educating city can be taken in consideration for educational purposes and urban planning in the forthcoming mega-cities. |

La tesis principal defendida en este artículo es que en lugar de estudiar la ciudad como una fuente de enfermedades, de estrés psi cológico ode problemas sociales debería ser estudiada como una experiencia positiva que ofrece oportunidades para el crecimiento individual y el aprendizaje. Este artículo desarrolla una serie de conceptos que reco gen las transacciones que tienen los indivi duos con el ambiente de la ciudad. Los conceptos propuestos se formulan con el fin de explicar la manera como la gente se com porta en el espacio público y contribuyen a crear su identidad urbana.
