Sumario:Since the middle of the xx century, it has been developed an accelerated growth of the cities in Mexico, and an important reduction of the rural population due to the migration to the main urban centers. This has generated a phenomenon of interaction among the cities and the countryside, one of them, is the process of rurbanization, so one of its consequences is the change of building patterns. This article, is the result of a research, it sets out the transformation of the vernacular housing by the influence of the rurbanization, it derives a transformation which has not only a characteristic about the evolution of the physical space, but a new conception of the habitat that was originated by the generational, social change and economic activities. In this context, the research identified the building patterns of the vernacular housing which they had been kept just with a few changes until some decades ago, nowadays; it has been detected some modifications to the original structure of the housing due to a new perception of the habitat, a new habitability.
