Firstly, the article reflects on two notions: the territory as an area for expansion of human capabilities and the territorial information as a strategic resource. Este artículo tiene por objetivo analizar, desde una mirada crítica, los actuales esquemas de producción de información estadística en tanto insumos para el diseño de políticas de desarrollo humano a escala local. Primero, se reflexiona sobre dos nociones: el territorio como ámbito de ampliación de las capacidades humanas y la información territorial como recurso estratégico. Luego, se describen las principales debilidades que presenta la información socioeconómica actualmente disponible. Finalmente, se esbozan algunas consideraciones orientadas a avanzar en la elaboración de Sistemas de Información Territorial. Este artigo tem por objetivo analisar, desde uma olhada crítica, os atuais esquemas de produção de informação estatística como insumos para o desenho de políticas de desenvolvimento humano a escala local. Primeiro, reflete-se sobre duas noções: o território como âmbito de ampliação das capacidades humanas e a informação territorial como recurso estratégico. Depois, descrevemse as principais debilidades que apresenta a informação socioeconômica atualmente disponível.
