description | The article is based on individual interviews and discussion sessions with men and women from among Jalisco's business owners, representatives, and executives. It discusses the dynamics of businesses in the state and explores the formation of its peculiar entrepreneurial class i.e. the socially-specific ways that people in Jalisco understand, practice, and represent economic activities and business , relating both phenomena with current attempts by businessmen to redefine their entrepreneurial practices. The article suggests that business in Jalisco has tended to organize itself on the basis of four fundamental principles, which, although they were efficient for a long time in the founding and prosperous development of business enterprises, are today insufficient - when not frankly counter-productive - in dealing with current business methods. |
